**What is sync licensing and how do I start?**

Sync licensing is a form of music licensing that grants a licensee the right to use a piece of music in various types of visual media like movies, TV shows, advertisements, video games, and more. To start, you need to ensure your music is of high production quality, you have control over both the master and composition rights, and you have clean stems, alt mixes, and metadata. Once your music is sync-ready, you can start pitching it to music libraries, supervisors, or directly to projects. We offer consulting services to guide you through this process. **What does 'one-stop' mean?**

In the context of sync licensing, 'one-stop' means that a single entity, such as a music library or publisher, controls both the master and publishing rights to a piece of music. This simplifies the licensing process for potential licensors, as they only have to negotiate with one party to obtain all the necessary permissions.

**What's the difference between master and publishing rights?**

Master rights refer to the rights to the actual sound recording of a song, while publishing rights pertain to the underlying composition of a song - the music and lyrics. The owner of the master rights is typically the artist or their record label, while the owner of the publishing rights is usually the songwriter or their publishing company.

**How do I make my tracks sync-ready?**

Making your tracks sync-ready involves a few key steps. First, ensure your music is of high production quality. Next, make sure you have control over both the master and composition rights - licensors generally prefer dealing with 'one-stop' sources. You should also prepare clean stems and alt mixes of your tracks (like instrumental versions or versions without drums), and ensure all your metadata is correct and comprehensive. This includes information like the track title, artist name, and copyright details.

**Should I sign exclusive or non-exclusive?**

The decision to sign an exclusive or non-exclusive deal depends on your individual circumstances and goals. In an exclusive deal, you grant a single entity the exclusive right to license your music for a specified period. In a non-exclusive deal, you retain the ability to license your music through multiple sources. Both types of deals have their pros and cons, and it's important to clearly understand the terms before signing any agreement. Consulting with a music publishing professional can provide clarity and help you make an informed decision.
