Renew Virginia Car Registration Online
Here are the steps to renewing your Virginia car registration online if you have received a renewal notice:
- Go to the Virginia DMV car registration website
- Type in your Title Number and the last 4 digits of your Vehicle ID Number (VIN) or Sign in to renew your Social Security Number or DMV customer number
- Pay the amount the system shows you
NOTE: Before renewing your car registration, make sure your emissions testing is complete if applicable.
Renew Virginia Car Registration in Person
Here are the steps to renewing your Virginia car registration in person if you have received a renewal notice:
- Go to any Virginia DMV office
- Bring the proof of emissions testing (if applicable), your renewal notice/current registration, your driver's license and the proof of insurance.
- Pay the fees
Note: You need to go to either a DMV Select office, or to the DMV Customer Service Center
