Here's How to Get Your Oregon Driver's License

Here's what you'll need to get your Oregon license:

  1. Application for Driving Privileges or ID Card (Form 735-173)
  2. Proof of your legal name, U.S. legal presence, Social Security Number and proof of Oregon address
  3. $60 Driver’s License fee; $23 instruction permit fee; $5 knowledge test fee, $9 for road test fee

Here's what you'll need to do to get your Oregon license:

  1. Read the Oregon Driver Manual and take the written practice tests online.
  2. Apply for your Learner’s Permit: submit the required documents and ID at the DMV; consider making a DMV appointment or getting a line waiting concierge
  3. At the DMV, submit the application for a driver's license, pay the fees, pass the written test, pass the vision test, receive your Learner’s Permit

  6. Once you pass your road test you'll receive a temporary driver's license.

Here are Oregon driver's license exceptions to note:

  • A Provisional Instruction permit allow you to operate vehicle only if you are accompanied by a person who: has a valid driver’s license, is at least 21 years old, and is sitting beside you
  • You will get an interim card showing your driving privileges while waiting for your instruction permit/driver’s license.
  • Make sure to follow photo rules. These items are not allowed in a drivers' license photo: eyeglasses, sunglasses, hat or head covering (other than religious), contacts that change the appearance of the eye, face paint, stickers or badges, and anything that covers your face or changes your appearance.
  • You must turn in any driver license or ID card you have from Oregon
