What You’ll Need to Renew your Colorado Driver License
- Your valid (or expired less than one year) Colorado driver license.
- Proof of your Social Security number
- Proof of current Colorado address
- $30.87 Driver's License Renewal fee
- Vision Screening
What You’ll Need to Do to Renew your Colorado Driver License Online
- Go to the Colorado DMV website to check eligibility.
- Type in your Colorado Customer ID or Driver's License Number, last name, date of birth and the last four digits of your SSN or ITIN.
- Pay the fees as shown in the system.
- Your printed receipt and the old/expired credential will serve as your temporary credential. (You will not be issued the same temporary credential that is issued to those who visit a driver license office in person.)
What You’ll Need to Do to Renew your Colorado Driver License in Person
- Schedule an appointment for your driver's license in your local DMV. Consider making a DMV appointment or getting a line waiting concierge.
- Complete the vision screening (for driver licenses and permits)
- Review temporary document for accuracy
- Signature capture; Fingerprint capture and Photograph
- Your new driver license will be mailed to you in 10-14 business days, but may take up to 30 business days to be delivered.
Here are Colorado driver's license renewal exceptions to note:
- If your driver license is expired for more than 1 year you will be required to successfully pass the written exam, purchase an instruction permit, successfully pass the drive test, then purchase a driver license.
- If your Colorado driver license or identification card is currently expired, and you are a U.S. citizen or are permanent legal resident, you will need to bring an additional document to demonstrate lawful presence in the U.S. Please see the DR2300A for document examples.
- If you have not received your new license and it has been more than 30 days, please check your status by going to the Colorado DMV Website.
