What You’ll Need to Do to Renew your Delaware Driver License Online
You are eligible to renew online only if you meet all the following requirements:
- You are 18 years of age and above.
- You haven't lost your driving privileges.
- You didn't use the self-service kiosk at your last DMV visit.
To renew online, do the following:
- Create MyDMV account if you don't have one.
- Follow the displayed instructions to renew your license instantly 24/7.
- Pay the $40 fee for an 8-year license.
- Print your temporary paper driver license.
Receive your new license within 2 weeks of the online process.
What You’ll Need to Do to Renew your Delaware Driver License by Mail
You may renew your license by mail only if you must be out of the state because you are in the military, an employee of the Department of Defense or a dependent of someone who is.
To renew your license by mail, you must provide the following:
- Your full name, date of birth and your current Delaware address.
- Your Social Security number.
- Your driver license number.
- Your mailing address.
- A contact phone number or email address.
- A copy of the military assignment orders for where you are currently stationed or a copy of your Military ID card or Department of Defense/Geneva Conventions ID card.
- A check or money order, payable to DMV for $40.00.
- A self-addressed, stamped envelope (for faster service).

Here are Delaware driver's license renewal exceptions to note:
- You may renew your license up to 180 days before it expires. The reminder will be sent to you by mail about 60 days before expiration date.
- Your new license will be issued for 8 years, with the exception of immigration length of stay and Driving Privilege Card holders.
