What You’ll Need to Renew your Oklahoma Driver License

  • Birth certificate. If something about your identity has changed, verify the change with supporting documents.
  • Your current driver's license.
  • Primary and Secondary identification document.
  • Have your picture taken.
  • Renewal fee based on your age. In most cases you will pay the license fee of $38.50. If you are older than 62, you will pay between $13.75 and $21.25. If you are older than 65, the renewal is free.

What You’ll Need to Do to Renew your Oklahoma Driver License in Person

  • Visit a Tag agent.
  • If your license expired more than a year ago, you will have to present a certified birth certificate.
  • Present your current driver's license to verify your identity. If something about your identity has changed, verify the change with supporting documents.
  • Provide one primary and one secondary identification document.
  • Have your picture taken.
  • Pay the fees. In most cases you will pay the license fee of $38.50. If you are older than 62, you will pay between $13.75 and $21.25. If you are older than 65, the renewal is free.
  • Receive your new license.

What You’ll Need to Do to Renew your Oklahoma Driver License by Mail

You can renew your Oklahoma driver license by mail if you are out of state.

Provide the following information:

  1. Birth certificate
  2. License number
  3. Your Oklahoma residential address.
  4. Your out of state/country address. Your new license will be sent there.
  5. Copy of Primary identification
  6. Copy of Secondary identification
  7. $38.50, payable to the "Department of Public Safety"
  8. Send mail to:

Your new license will be sent to your out-of-state/out-of-country address.

Here are Oklahoma driver's license renewal exceptions to note:

  • You will need to take a written test once in 8 years while renewing your license if you have any traffic convictions. If you have an accident recorded on your driving record, you may be required to take the road exam as well.
  • If you are in this country on Immigration Documents, you must take the License along with your immigration documents to a Driver License Exam Site to initiate the renewal.
  • Commercial Driver Licenses (Class A, B, or C) cannot be renewed or replaced by mail, as they require an appearance before an Examiner for clearance.
