Here's the ultimate guide to transferring your vehicle title at the Delaware DMV. We've simplified the entire process to save you time.

What You’ll Need to Transfer your Vehicle Title in Delaware

  • A completed assignment of Certificate of Title section on the back of the title. Be sure to include the buyer's name and address, date of sale, purchase price, and Odometer Disclosure.
  • The buyer and seller must sign, date, and time it.
  • The seller must complete the proof of sale section on their registration and mail it to the DMV.
  • Proof of Liability Insurance a Delaware Driver's License or two accepted proofs of residency.
  • Payment of the fee. (If you have a loan on the new car, the title costs $55. If there is no loan on the car it only costs $35 for the title.)

For out-of-state title transfers...

  • Complete the purchase out-of-state.
  • Bring the old title, proof of insurance, and the bill of sale to the DMV and obtain a 5-Day Temporary Tag.
  • Bring the vehicle to a Delaware inspection lane.
  • Once you receive an inspection certificate, bring all your paperwork to the DMV to get the new title and registration.
