Here's How to Get Your Georgia Driver's License
Here's what you'll need to get your Georgia license:
- Proof of identity (including your full name), date of birth, Social Security number or proof of ineligibility for a Social Security number, US citizenship, and your residential address in Georgia
- Fill out and sign a Driving Experience Affidavit (Form DDS-7), to certify that you have practiced driving (whether you have an instruction permit or you don’t, you must certify that you practiced supervised driving for at least 40 hours, 6 hours of which were at night)
- Complete your application form which can be done online (You can also obtain an application form at the Customer Service Center)
- Payment - $32.00 ($20.00 for a five-year license for a noncitizen) paid by cash, check or card.
Here's what you'll need to do to get your Georgia license:
- Read the Georgia Driver’s Manual and take online practice exams to prepare for the written test
- Visit your nearest DDS Customer Service Center to apply for your Learner’s Permit or you can schedule on Skip. Submit the required documents & ID, pass 2 written tests, pass the vision test, submit payment, receive your Learner’s Permit

Here are Georgia driver's license exceptions to note:
- Don’t need to practice driving? Then you do not need a Learner’s Permit.
- Under age 18? Then you will receive an intermediate driver’s license that can be converted to a Class C license when you turn 18.
