    Here's How to Get Your New Jersey Driver's License

    Here's what you'll need to get your New Jersey license:

    1. Completed Auto Permit Application (Form BA-412C)
    2. Completed Auto License Application (Form BA-208)
    3. Proof of identity: 6-Point ID requirements
    4. Proof of U.S. citizenship OR legal presence in U.S
    5. Payment for required fees: $10 for Examination Permit fee, $4 for reflective license plate decals, $6 for probationary license fee, Pro-rated upgrade fee for Class D license

    Here's what you'll need to do to get your New Jersey license:

    1. Visit any DMV Office near you to apply in person and provide the required documents.
    2. Take and pass the vision and written test to be issued a Learner's permit. (Read the New Jersey Driver Manual and take written practice tests).

    5. Once you pass the road test you will be issued a probationary Driver's License.

    Here are New Jersey driver's license exceptions to note:

    • Under age 18?  Then you will need to adhere to the Graduated Driver's License program, which requires first obtaining a Learner’s Permit plus provisional driver’s licenses.
