Here's a quick guide to renewing your vehicle registration in Alaska which we hope will save you time. In Alaska, you can renew your car registration in person, online, by phone or via mail, so take your pick.

Renew Alaska Car Registration Online

Here are the steps to renewing your Alaska car registration online if you have a received a renewal notice:

  1. Go to the Alaska DMV car registration website
  2. Type in your Registration Renewal Number (RRN) from the renewal notice
  3. Make sure your primary address in the system is correct
  4. Pay the amount the system shows you

Renew Alaska Car Registration in Person

Here are the steps to renewing your Alaska car registration in person if you have received a renewal notice:

  1. Go to any Alaska DMV office
  2. Bring the renewal notice that you have received, a copy of your current registration, and a completed Vehicle Transaction Application
  3. Pay for the car registration renewal fee

NOTE: There is a $10 walk-in fee for coming in to the DMV office to renew the car registration.

Renew Alaska Car Registration via Mail

Here are the steps to renewing your Alaska car registration via mail if you have received a renewal notice:    

Make sure to have the following details when you renew via mail such as:

  1. A copy of your last registration
  2. A Vehicle Transaction Application (Form 812)
  3. If you are military make sure you include your current LES showing Alaska as your home state
  4. Personalized check or money order for Fees & Taxes
  5. A self-addressed envelope where we will mail the registration and tab

NOTE: This is at least a 6 week process so make sure you have enough time to receive these back before you expire.
