Are Arizona DMV's Open?
Arizona DMV's are partially open. Walk-in services aren't available, and you can take care of most services at home. However, if you are new to the state or need to take a road test, you'll need to call them to make a DMV appointment at 602-712-2700.
Are California DMV's Open?
California DMV's are partially open. The California Department of Motor Vehicles will reopen select field offices across the state on Friday, May 8, to assist customers with appointments and with transactions that require an in-person visit to a field office during the COVID-19 pandemic. The DMV continues to encourage customers to use online services, its expanded virtual services and other service channels to complete transactions, including driver license and vehicle registration renewals.
Because of the limited space in offices to maintain physical distancing and public health guidelines, the DMV is not offering new online appointments at this point. Customers are encouraged to complete their transaction online, if possible.
Here is the latest list of office reopenings that are by appointment only (for people that already had appointments). Road tests are still cancelled.

Are Florida DMV's Open?
Florida DMV's are partially open. Due to COVID-19, FLHSMV offices are currently closed to the public however we have received reports that some existing road test appointments are proceeding. The Florida DMV will continue to provide services online at GoRenew.com, by telephone and email. For information on tax collectors or license plate agents, please visit their respective websites.
Are Georgia DMV's Open?
Georgia DMV's are partially open. DDS is providing limited driver services by Appointment Only. All customers must schedule an appointment when visiting a center. The automobile road test requires an appointment and the passing of the modified road test. Â All drivers are now required to take and pass a modified road test that will be administered at DDS Customer Service Centers. Â You must schedule a Road Test Appointment.
Are Illinois DMV's Open?
Illinois DMV's are closed. All Illinois Secretary of State offices and Driver Services facilities are CLOSED to the public. A comprehensive reopening plan will be announced shortly and will include the proper protections for customers and employees, such as PPE and social distancing.
Are Massachusetts DMV's Open?
Massachusetts DMV's are partially open. The only transactions that will be processed at service centers are those that the RMV considers ‘essential’ (e.g. obtaining a commercial driver’s license or commercial learner’s permit to assist with the supply chain during the State of Emergency declaration | registering a newly purchased vehicle as your primary mode of transportation for employment or obtaining medication and other necessary treatments | transferring your license or registration from another state for residency requirements)
Class D and M road tests are cancelled until further notice. Governor Baker issued an Executive Order providing that Learner’s Permits dated between March 1, 2020 and May 31, 2020 will continue to have an active status until sixty days after the printed expiration date – learner’s permit holders need not worry immediately if their road test is cancelled.
Are Michigan DMV's Open?
Michigan DMV's are closed. Secretary of State offices are closed until further notice to slow the spread of the coronavirus and protect public health. Late fees will be waived during this period.
Are Nevada DMV's Open?
Nevada DMV's are closed. DMV offices and all other public-facing operations are closed as of March 17, 2020. A date to reopen has not been set.
Are New York DMV's Open?
New York DMV's are closed. All DMV field offices are closed and all road tests have been suspended until further notice.
Are North Carolina DMV's Open?
North Carolina DMV's are partially open. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, road tests are currently suspended for the health and safety of customers and staff.​ People whose credentials expired between March 1, 2020 and Aug. 1, 2020 have been given a one-time, five-month extension (from the original expiration date) to renew driver licenses and handle vehicle registrations.
Are Ohio DMV's Open?
Ohio DMV's are partially open. Effective March 19, the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV) closed 181 BMV deputy registrar locations. Five locations remain open to provide the following services only: Issuance of a commercial driver license (CDL), Renewal of a CDL. All other services will be discontinued.
Are Pennsylvania DMV's Open?
Pennsylvania DMV's are closed. In response to COVID-19 and temporary closure of all PennDOT Driver License Centers, road test appointments are not being scheduled at this time.
Are Texas DMV's Open?
Texas DMV's are partially open. Texas will make an announcement when the date for reopening our Regional Service Centers has been determined. Decisions regarding the reopening of county tax offices and Texas Department of Public Safety driver license offices are made by the respective agencies.
Are Virginia DMV's Open?
Virginia DMV's are partially open. Partial reopening will begin on May 18, 2020. DMV is taking every precaution in planning a thoughtful, phased approach to safely reopening customer service centers. Operational adjustments are being made for social distancing. To minimize customer volume at DMV offices, appointments will be required for specific services generally necessitating in-person service. Customers should use alternate service methods, such as online or by mail, when possible.
Are Washington DMV's Open?
Washington DMV's are closed. The Washington Department of Licensing (DOL) is temporarily closing all driver licensing lobbies beginning March 31, in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. All appointments are being canceled at this time and no appointments will be made going forward.
Are Maryland DMV'S Open?
Maryland DMV's are closed. Some online services and self-service kiosks are available but appointments are not.
