What are the American Express Small Business Grants?

The Amex Shop Small Grants Program is a national grant initiative launched by American Express in partnership with Main Street America to support small businesses that strengthen local communities. The program provides $20,000 grants to eligible brick-and-mortar businesses across the United States, with additional grant funding supported by Shop Small purchases made by American Express Card Members.

What are the requirements?

Applicants must be small business owners aged 18 or older and located in one of the 50 U.S. states or Washington, D.C. Eligible businesses must operate a physical, brick-and-mortar storefront that has been open at its current location since January 1, 2025, and employ 20 or fewer full-time employees. Applicants must complete and submit the application during the open application period to be considered.

Who is the grant best for?

This grant is best for locally owned, brick-and-mortar small businesses that play an active role in their community and are looking for meaningful capital to invest in growth, innovation, or neighborhood impact. It's especially well suited for Main Street businesses that rely on in-person customers.

How are the winners selected?

Grant recipients are selected through a review process conducted by American Express in partnership with Main Street America. Applications are evaluated based on eligibility and the business's role in supporting its local community. Selected businesses receive a $20,000 grant, with additional grants funded through the Shop Small campaign.
